Rockingham County Education Foundation is to proud partner with Piedmont Folk Legacies to provide music education to students through two programs: Piedmont Instrument Classes for Kids (P.I.C.K.) and the Tony Rice Music Scholarship (in development).

P.I.C.K. provides traditional banjo, fiddle, and guitar music education to 3rd - 5th grade students in Rockingham County. Parents are never charged a fee for the program. P.I.C.K. is made possible by the Reidsville Area Foundation, Sheetz, Home Trust Bank, and private donations.

Tony Rice’s music transcends norms and transforms the way musicians around the world interpret acoustic bluegrass and jazz, especially through his mastery of the guitar. Rice poured peace, love and joy into every note. He changed lives with every performance. He also changed how the bluegrass guitar was played. Counting how many musicians around the world felt the direct influence of one of this world’s most unique maestros would be impossible. Bluegrass legends, country music giants and artists around the world flock to his influence.

Tony Rice's global impact, felt by the likes of Kenny Chesney, Alison Krauss, Sierra Hull, Jerry Garcia, Ricky Skaggs and members of The String Cheese among others. Tony, a long time Reidsville resident and native of Danville, Va, left behind a cherished legacy so powerful that it's imperative we honor him in a significant way. Tony Rice changed the course of American music, and it is our hope that we can help transform the lives of young musicians. Piedmont Folk Legacies and RCEF - with your help - will establish an endowed scholarship to aid aspiring Rockingham County high school students of music. Before now, few opportunities existed for students in our community to access traditional music programs and scholarships to help them develop their talents.

It's easy to become a founding donor of the Tony Rice Music Scholarship by check payable to Rockingham County Education Foundation with "Tony Rice Scholarship" in the memo line. Mail to RCEF, 123 S. Scales St., Reidsville, NC 27320.
